The Cairo Cats are a gorgeous group of ladies who came together through their love for Egyptian style bellydance.  Formed by well known UK bellydance teacher Vivienne in 2006, the group have gone from strength to strength and are much admired for their innovative, stylised and polished performances.  Amongst their many appearances they have been privileged to perform at events across the UK.   The Cairo Cats are privileged to have taken part in the Diverse Arts Live shoe at the Milton Keynes Theatre on 18th September.

The group are available to provide unique family entertainment at your event.  For more details please click here or call Vivienne on 07905 242436.

Cairo Cats
I've only been dancing a couple of years or so now but am no stranger to performing! I was once a semi-professional musician playing mainly Jazz and orchestral music. Nowadays apart from dancing I also do some supporting artiste work and have appeared on TV and Film.

Learning to bellydance was a real personal achievement as it was something I'd been interested in doing for many years. Finding Vivienne's class allowed me to explore the wonderful and varied world of bellydancing. I enjoy it very much and hope to improve and hone my technique to a high level. I am mainly interested in the more folky styles and tribal although learning to use ISIS wings is very much on my agenda.  Studying the varied styles and techniques through Vivienne helps to expand choreography ideas. Vivienne has been a wonderful and supportive teacher.

Oh and lastly bellydancing gives me the opportunity to wear some fantastic outfits!

I have always had a fascination for Belly Dance ever since I saw a dancer on holiday in Turkey. I loved the costume and the mesmerising control the dancer had over her body and indeed the attention of the audience. Responding to a newspaper advert I joined Vivienne’s classes in January 2006 partly out of curiosity and for something to do as an evening class.

Right from the very start I loved it and enjoyed the subtleties and postures needed to learn this dance. This I quickly realised was a fun way of dancing and looking good with out the aid of a partner. After progressing to the intermediate classes I soon danced in my first Haflah in Buckingham. That sealed it for me as I so enjoyed the camaraderie of my fellow dancers and the busy preparation of learning new choreographies. I discovered a new me and one that loved to perform.

Since then I have moved from strength to strength and have performed at many shows, events and Haflahs in local and surrounding home counties.

Although I have danced at small intimate private parties, which always give me an opportunity to interact with close members of the audience, I really enjoy dancing on a large stage as there is something about the lights that brings out the best in me. I adore all types of Belly Dance but my favourites are drum solo’s and veil performances.

Having started classes at the same time as Sam, we found we had a lot in common and started to dance together - developing our own cheeky style of dancing and our own choreographies.  We dance together as a duet called Sammalyns and perform at all types of events.
